Adding, removing or modifying fields and tables, creating new relationships, and establishing validation rules are the very basic requirements for long-term maintenance. As simple as these types of tasks are conceptually, in most applications they can be labor-intensive to execute. Aptify greatly simplifies these processes by providing a single point of administration for making updates which then automates modification of all layers of the architecture. For example, by modifying a field size in a table, the change is automatically managed across all three logical layers of the Aptify architecture – data model, business logic and presentation layer.

Modifying the user experience to enhance productivity or to introduce new functionality is a common maintenance requirement for all applications. Aptify enables a developer to easily mold the UI to satisfy evolving requirements through powerful meta-data tools described in Development features. These modifications are automatically deployed to the Windows Smart Client and the browser-based Aptify Web Access client.

By encapsulating key business rules and workflow into graphical process flows with Aptify's Process Pipeline technology, managers can easily understand as-is processes and modify them to address new rules. If the existing library of process components is not sufficient to meet business requirements, technical personnel can work side by side with business analysts and managers to add new code-based functionality to the library.

Aptify's Record History feature provides comprehensive capabilities to track changes made to any record within the database, including when the changes were made, the user who made them and precisely what was changed. The data can be viewed in its historical form and restored to any version, easily reversing unwanted changes. This audit trail can also be extracted in its native XML format to be analyzed in a data warehouse environment.

Aptify has a “package-and-deploy” toolset for capturing a set of meta-data with code-based configurations, and for redeploying them to new environments. These tools are useful for migration as well as for upgrading to new versions of the Aptify platform.
