Software Engineer - Job Description

The individual filling this position will be a member of a small, international software development team working on all phases of the software product development life cycle from conception through delivery.  This position involves the following platforms and technologies: Web, Windows, Microsoft .NET (VB.NET, C#, ASP.NET, Silverlight 2.0) and Microsoft SQL Server 2008.  This person will be responsible for the design, implementation and testing of the Aptify Technology Platform and enterprise business applications based on established and emerging technologies. By participating in architectural and overall technical design, this person will be a key contributor to develop Aptify’s core software product line.

This individual will work both independently and with a team to deliver quality products in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.  The Software Engineer/Senior Software Engineer will take ownership of projects and responsibility areas, completing assignments with minimal guidance.  This person will mentor other Engineers.  Interaction with clients and sales prospects is occasionally required. Strong verbal communication skills is a plus. Aptify is a growing company and therefore, job requirements will vary periodically depending upon priorities and resource availability. However, the functions listed below represent most of the duties involved with the job.

• At the Senior level, participate in the architectural design of the Aptify Application Lifecycle Platform and Business Applications
• Deliver high quality work product within estimated timeframes
• Write design documents and participate in product architecture design reviews
• Define business requirements for market-leading product functionality
• Lead small Engineering teams in design and implementation tasks
• Build integration between Aptify products and third party technologies
• Develop innovative approaches to interface design that enable users to work efficiently
• Define, develop and test Aptify-based Windows smart client and web applications
• Maintain existing Aptify Windows and Web applications
• Test and resolve bugs
• Assist field staff on client projects
• Develop customer-specific application and web application features as required
• Develop and use quality assurance procedures to assure high quality software
• Participate in design and review sessions

• Minimum of BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
• 3-6 years of related experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer science fundamentals
• Between 3-4 years of experience with Microsoft development tools/technologies such as VB.NET, Visual C++, SQL Server, Active Server Pages and .NET is required
• Extensive experience in web development using ASP.NET
• Understanding of Silverlight 2.0 Architecture preferred. Silverlight is a new technology so we do not require production experience but a successful candidate must have a grasp of the technology based on Microsoft’s beta releases
• Solid relational database experience
• 2-3 years experience working with commercial software desirable
• Previous experience with business topics such as finance, accounting or marketing is considered beneficial in this role, but is not required
• Requires strong attention to detail
• Pro-active, self-starter attitude
